The Spiritual Peace Project
A Journey Toward Spiritual Peace
Life can leave us carrying more than we realize.
Guilt. Resentment. Fear. Distraction. Regret. The pressure of everyday life. Even when our lives seem full, we can still find ourselves wondering why peace feels so far away.
The Spiritual Peace Project was created around a simple question:
What if we paid as much attention to our spiritual wealth as we do to everything else we are trying to build in life?
True spiritual wealth is not something we earn. It begins with what God has already given us: His love, His mercy, His grace, and the promise that nothing can separate us from Him.
The Spiritual Peace Project, or SPP, is a Catholic faith formation initiative designed to help people recognize that gift, identify the burdens keeping them from experiencing it fully, and build a life rooted in prayer, the sacraments, service, and peace.
Becoming Whole: A Journey Toward Spiritual Peace

“God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy.” – Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, no. 3, November 24, 2013

Becoming Whole: A Journey Toward Spiritual Peace is the narrative foundation of The Spiritual Peace Project and the first book by Thom Sisson.
Maria is struggling under the weight of guilt, frustration, and fractured relationships. She longs for peace but is not convinced that peace is really possible for someone like her.
Then she discovers The Spiritual Peace Project.
Guided by Deacon James, Maria begins an eight-week journey that challenges her to look honestly at her life and her relationship with God. Along the way, she encounters gratitude, forgiveness, Confession, prayer, the Eucharist, virtue, generosity, and service in ways she never expected.
Her journey is not about suddenly becoming perfect.
It is about becoming whole.
Through Maria’s story, Becoming Whole invites readers to consider their own spiritual lives and discover the treasure that has been there all along: God’s unchanging love.

What Is Spiritual Wealth?
When we hear the word wealth, we usually think about money, possessions, or financial security.
SPP asks us to look at wealth differently.
Our greatest inheritance is the love of God. It cannot be bought, earned, or taken away. Yet our ability to live in the peace of that inheritance can become clouded by sin, guilt, resentment, distraction, and the many burdens we carry.
The Spiritual Peace Project uses familiar financial language as a way of exploring the spiritual life:
- Discover your spiritual wealth: Recognize God’s abundant and unchanging love.
- Identify spiritual debt: Examine the sins, wounds, guilt, distractions, and burdens creating distance in your relationship with God.
- Experience redemption: Encounter the mercy of Jesus Christ, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
- Build spiritual savings: Develop a life of prayer, Scripture, and regular participation in the sacraments.
- Anchor your life in Christ: Discover the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life.
- Make faith investments: Practice virtues such as patience, humility, kindness, and generosity.
- Share your spiritual wealth: Allow God’s grace to overflow through service, encouragement, and love for others.
- Live in spiritual abundance: Build habits that sustain a lifelong relationship with God.
These practices do not earn God’s love. They are our response to the love and grace He has already freely given us.
More Than a Book
Becoming Whole tells the story.
The Spiritual Peace Project is intended to help people live the journey.
The vision for SPP includes an 8-week parish faith formation experience or a weekend retreat, giving participants opportunities for teaching, Scripture, personal reflection, prayer, small group discussion, Confession, the Eucharist, Adoration, service, and continued spiritual growth.
These programs are being developed from the same journey introduced through Becoming Whole.

The Heart of the Project
The Spiritual Peace Project is rooted in the central proclamation of our faith:
God loves us.
Sin separates us from the peace He desires for us.
Jesus Christ redeems us.
And through the Holy Spirit, we are invited to respond to that grace and live differently.
SPP exists to help people make that response.
Not by promising a life without struggle, but by helping us discover where true peace is found when struggles come.
Not by pretending we have everything figured out, but by learning to trust the One who does.
Not by becoming perfect, but by allowing God’s grace to keep making us whole.
